US Inflation Calculator — what is your money worth today?
How much is $X from a few years ago worth today? Using the U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI-U), this tool shows the today's-dollars value of a past amount and the total inflation that built up over the period.
CPI-U — U.S. city average Consumer Price Index (1982-84=100), source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Latest year: —.
This is the main event: entire markets on one screen — gainers, losers, volume. US, Europe, Asia, BIST and crypto, color-coded.
How it works
The calculation uses the official CPI-U (Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers) annual averages published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. A past amount is scaled by the ratio of today's index to the earlier index: value today = amount × (today's CPI ÷ past CPI).
That answers "how many of today's dollars you would need to have the same purchasing power" — in other words, how much inflation has eroded the value of money.
For informational purposes. CPI-U represents an average urban consumer basket; your personal inflation can differ with your spending habits.
